Here is a list of some of the programs that LVGBPT offers for its students:

Basic Literacy

Students meet one-on-one or in small groups with a volunteer tutor. Beginners focus on learning the letter sounds and sight words while advanced students work on reading comprehension and writing. The objective is to improve English reading and writing skills so they may achieve goals such as getting a driver's license, obtaining employment or earning a high school diploma or GED certificate.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Students attend weekly classes with a small group of learners and a volunteer tutor to improve their conversational English skills so they can meet communication and life skill needs. While some are illiterate in their native languages, others are highly educated. All are highly motivated and share the mission of succeeding in this country. Beginners focus on learning basic survival words while advanced students work on reading and writing English as well as speaking.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

Busy adults can earn a high school diploma through independent study where they demonstrate that they have acquired basic academic and life skills at the high school level. Candidates meet with a certified NEDP assessor once a week and complete assignments at home. Each week they receive feedback on the work they have completed and must demonstrate competency in 70 areas in order to earn their high school diploma. On average, it takes candidates eight months to complete the program. This works well for self-motivated adults who prefer to work independently, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. All assignments are submitted online, so students must be comfortable using a computer.

Civics

Students attend a 10 week class to help them prepare for their citizenship exam. They learn history, take field trips and complete local community civics projects.

Computer Assisted Instruction

Students who want to supplement their weekly tutoring or learn independently may take advantage of free online courses in English, reading, math, citizenship and digital literacy.
